New program to assist Greater-Lansing area job seekers

Employment seekers in the Greater-Lansing area will soon have a new resource for improving their job search strategies. We are launching a 12-week Job Seeker Strategy Group to help Greater-Lansing job seekers optimize their searches and improve their chances of landing a job.

Starting in January, our Talent Team will conduct weekly group sessions that focus on strategies for job seekers to better market themselves to potential employers. In addition to expanded networks and skills articulation, job seekers will complete the program with an “employment toolkit,” which includes a resume, social media presence, business cards, employment portfolio, and more.

“The employment market in Michigan continues to be a challenge, with many residents searching for weeks, months, or even years to find an opportunity,” notes Amanda Avila, Director of PCF Talent Initiatives. “We designed these sessions to quickly help job seekers develop tools that will help them leave an impression with employers.”

In addition to skills and materials, job seekers will also have several opportunities to network and connect with local employers, benefiting both employers and job seekers.

“We receive calls from employers who are struggling to find talent as a result of using only electronic systems for hiring. This program also emphasizes the importance of employers getting to know their local talent pool,” adds Avila.

The first 12-week cohort kicks off Wednesday, January 9th at Northwood University’s East Lansing Campus. Space is limited, so those interested are advised to register immediately.
