PCF is focused on creating an environment that will encourage partners to connect and strategically identify areas of opportunities for creating a talent pipeline. Building partnerships with workforce development professionals, educational institutions and businesses while assisting job seekers, has been essential to creating opportunities.
PCF and MII partner, CIndy Brown, Executive Director of Hello West Michigan, have been conducting and coordinating Employer Internship Training Sessions (EITS) throughout the state to help address and prevent talent gaps for organizations and the state.
In addition to receiving a copy of the Employer Internship Toolkit, attendees of an EITS walk away from each session with a clear understanding of how to structure an internship program by following these 5 steps:
- Set goals and policies for the internship program
- Write a plan for the internship opportunity
- Recruit a qualified intern
- Manage the intern
- Conduct exit interviews and follow-up
Other key components of an EITS include:
- Connecting with colleges and workforce development partners
- The importance and concept of proactively creating an organization's workforce pipeline
- Discussion surrounding how interns can directly impact an organization's bottom-line
- Describing how employers can engage "non-traditional" talent
