We focus on the creation of demand-driven economic sectors. Diversified, cutting-edge sectors create jobs and are resistant to economic downturns.
The following are a few examples of new sectors we are examining.
Garment Industry
As Michigan’s economy increasingly diversifies, the Garment Industry has become a dynamic emerging sector that brings together designers, manufacturers, and many more. The Prima Civitas Foundation (PCF) has identified the talent and resources already present in Michigan. Working closely with partners, PCF has created the Michigan Garment Industry Council (MGIC) comprised of industry experts and leaders in manufacturing. This Council will lead the charge to promote Michigan as a hub for garment production in the U.S., resulting in Michigan-made garments, companies, and jobs.
Together with Michigan-based designers, manufacturers, suppliers, and assorted talent agencies, the Michigan Garment Industry Council will provide partners with unique networking and business development opportunities. Looking to other garment hubs in the U.S., the Council will leapfrog the competition with innovative technology, a state brand, and community investment. By strategically connecting various links in the supply chain, the Council will foster the promotion and success of Michigan’s Garment Industry and contribute to the state’s overall growth and prosperity.
To enhance this effort, PCF is creating an online presence for the MGIC that will provide resources and connectivity for Michigan's growing garment industry. To have your business listed on the website, click here for more information.
PCF will use its cooperative experience to make the Michigan Garment Industry Council the guiding force behind a new and exciting sector!
Shrimp Aquaculture
PCF, in partnership with the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC), has researched “The Shrimp Farm Market”, in Okemos, as a potential model for the development of an aquaculture industry in Michigan. Using the Market’s sustainable farm practices as a model, this innovative sector could provide local solutions to global food security and product safety concerns, while also encouraging the development of emerging business sectors in Michigan.
