Arnold Weinfeld Named CEO and Chair of the Board of Prima Civitas
The Board of Directors of Prima Civitas has named Arnold Weinfeld its Chief Executive Officer and Chair of the Board.
Weinfeld, who served as Treasurer of the Prima Civitas (PC) Board, joins PC from the Michigan Municipal League, where as Director of Strategic Initiatives he developed programs, services, and outreach strategies to further the League’s policy initiatives. Also, as Presidentof the Michigan Municipal League Foundation he engaged local officials in innovative League programs.
Weinfeld succeeds Prima Civitas CEO Steven Webster, who was MSU Vice President for Government Relations before taking the helm at PC in 2011 and expanding its scope. Webster will continue to be active in the international and education program areas of the organization. He and his wife Linda will relocate to be with family in the Twin Cities.
“Arnold’s skills, experience and detailed understanding of communities statewide will sync perfectly with the Prima Civitas mission, and team,” said Webster. “As important, he embodies the World Grant spirit nurtured and promotedby Michigan State University President Lou Anna Simon. And, as a key leader at the Michigan Municipal League, Arnold has strategically and effectively partnered with key stakeholders, such as the CS Mott Foundation, to revive Michigan's cities, including Flint. He’s the right leader at the right time as Prima Civitas continues to grow in size and impact.”
Prior to his position with the Municipal League, Weinfeld worked for the Michigan House of Representatives as a legislative aide, policy analyst and policy director. He also served as an elected member of the Waverly Community Schools Board of Education as Treasurer and then Board President. He currently is Treasurer of the Waverly Education Foundation and is a board member of the Michigan Parks and Recreation Association and Michigan Rural Development Council.
“I am honored to have been involved with Prima Civitas as a board member and am excited to now serve in this new capacity,” said Weinfeld. “In an ever-changing and challenging knowledge-based economy, the work that PC does is critical to Michigan’s resurgence.”
Prima Civitas, in collaboration with key partners including MSU and The Mott Foundation, creates opportunities in Michigan for companies and communities, and connects them to the 21st century knowledge economy. The organization develops emerging and re-emerging markets and industries, and has created state-adopted international export strategies. PC also works with municipalities to create efficiencies and regional opportunities, as well as coordinate international activities to benefit Michigan’s economy. In addition, PC develops strategies to integrate entrepreneurship into K-12 schools, and advance Michigan’s student and adult talent pipeline.
